Board Your Loft, Increase Your VALUE

How boarding your loft can increase the value of your home

Lofts are traditionally one of the most under-utilised spaces in any home, however, boarding your loft is a cost-effective way to create a safe, accessible and usable storage space that helps make your home more organised – whilst improving energy efficiency too.

Recently commissioned research by British manufacturer of raised loft flooring systems, LoftZone, found that a usable loft can add nearly £18,000 to the value of a family home, making it easier to sell.

The estate agents surveyed voted ‘fixing up a loft’ as the most overlooked method of immediately adding value to a home – more so than an extension, outdoor living space or solar panels – with almost a third of agents also advising that a usable loft space would provide the best return on investment for homeowners.

In fact, 45% of estate agents reported that buyers have either been put off making an offer or reduced their offer if the loft space in a prospective home isn’t functional.

However, before you think about boarding your loft, you should ensure the loft insulation isn’t compressed by the boards, as this can reduce its thermal efficiency and increase heating costs.

Using a raised loft boarding system will protect the insulation by ensuring the loft boards are raised above it, ensuring the insulation doesn’t get squashed.
